Kids Gobble Up Dinner With the Other White Meat
October 29, 2009

Dr. Clarrisa Odland of the Pipestone Vet Clinic challenged Pipestone System and Pipestone Clinic employees to serve their families a pork meal and then submit a recipe. Jody DeKam didn’t have to change her behavior at all: she and her family regularly eat pork every week.

However, participating in the contest encouraged Jody to deviate slightly. She tried a new recipe and, as a result, won the in-house contest.

“Soda-Pop Chops is a recipe my sister-in-law recommended. Since it’s popular at her house I thought it might be a hit with my husband and three children,” Jody explains. “And it was.”

There was only one little problem, she continues, “I didn’t make enough!”

Jody smothered pork chops in a sauce made of a cup of cola, a cup of ketchup, and half a cup brown sugar. She baked her mixture for an hour at 350 degrees and served the tender chops with cheesy potatoes and green beans.

The DeKam children (along with the contest judges) recommend you try this easy pork main dish. Just consider doubling the recipe to allow for second helpings! View winning recipe here.
